CUOL

 

For over 63 years RTN Federal Credit Union has been dedicated to its philosophy of providing members with high quality and personal service. The Massachusetts-based credit union offers a complete range of services to over 40,000 members.  No credit union can continually add new products and services and grow their assets without a solid technology base. RTN FCU has chosen to partner since 1980 with one of the credit union movement’s most established and reliable data processing providers: Credit Union On-Line, Inc. (CUOL).

Christopher White, Senior Vice President at RTN FCU, is well positioned to comment on the credit union’s relationship with CUOL because he started with the credit union back in 1982. He has worked in virtually all areas of the credit union’s operations: lending, technology, ATMs, credit cards and operations. White relates that “over the years CUOL has always stayed on top of technology and helped us roll out new products and services. They are especially well positioned now that they are close partners with Fiserv.”

Not only does CUOL deliver the latest web-integrated technology in a browser-based environment for RTN, but they also act as their virtual IT Department. Surprisingly, the $600M plus credit union does not have any in-house IT employees! CUOL employees help with regular on-site visits, plus they are able to readily support the credit union with secure remote access. White confirms that “CUOL manages our core system in their secure data center and our internal network and PCs. Their employees are essentially our coworkers and they do a great job.”

In 2007, RTN FCU converted to CUOL’s XP2 solution and stayed in a service bureau environment. White recalls that “it was a smooth transition and brought with it an excellent teller platform.” XP2 runs on an open, relational database platform with Internet architecture and browser-based applications. According to White, “the system is quite intuitive and makes it easy to train new employees. As long as they have Web experience, we can quickly get them up to speed.”

With the robust resources of Fiserv, the leading global provider of financial services technology solutions, at their disposal, CUOL is able to offer a wide variety of specialized and powerful software modules. For example, RTN FCU is looking to add online account opening functionality in the near future. White and his team at the credit union appreciate the fact that CUOL has dedicated staff onboard to handle any upgrades or additions. He emphasizes that “the CUOL staff is very experienced and quick to respond, plus many of their employees have been with them for years.” He concludes that “we highly recommend CUOL. Whether the credit union is large or small, they have the expertise to take care of them.”
