Akamai Technologies announced the launch of Akamai MFA, a solution designed to enable CUs to quickly deploy FIDO2 multi-factor authentication (MFA) without the need to deploy and manage hardware security keys. ATIS’ Next G Alliance is setting work in motion for a roadmap to 6G, appointing AT&T and Ericsson executives to lead efforts on overall strategy and direction for the North American coalition. 6G is still very much a long-term initiative, with formal definitions and standards yet to be determined. With an average loan size of under $16,000, these funds have offered a lifeline to dozens of nascent enterprises. Portland, OR-based CU Point West has limited the size of its business purpose loans to under $50,000 in aggregate borrower exposure, allowing it to avoid member business lending statutory limits and the associated expense.

Visa just announced Visa Direct Payouts, which allows users to send money overseas either to a recipient’s Visa debit or prepaid card or to their FI account. The transfers can be made to more than 170 countries. However, domestic US transfers under Visa Direct Payouts do not include payouts to FI accounts. Visa defines their "real time" payments as “moments or hours” compared to days or as much as a week.
AT&T continues to grow and evolve its AT&T SD-WAN capabilities, adding new features from Cisco to support remote workers. They have introduced AT&T SD-WAN with Cisco's Teleworker solution, which offers SD-WAN capabilities for employees working from home. In action, it layers on the full SD-WAN stack with one piece of hardware.
SD-WAN is steadily replacing MPLS, and IT managers are no longer looking at it primarily as a way to cut costs - now it's about boosting capacity, access and performance. These are the findings of TeleGeography's latest WAN Manager Survey. Respondents were asked to rank the factors that drove them to pursue SD-WAN deployments and were given six choices: increasing site capacity, using alternative access solutions, improving performance, cutting costs, reducing provisioning time, and improving security. The first three choices tied for number one, followed by cutting costs, reducing provisioning time and improving security.
NaaS enables organizations to outsource network functionality at network Layers 4-7—such as software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) and application delivery controller (ADC)—as well as Layers 1-3, which includes switches and routers. Over the next five-plus years, some observers think that IT teams will increasingly adopt NaaS as suppliers deliver hybrid offerings that include software, cloud intelligence, and the option for management of on-premises hardware. These services will be subscription-based and pay as you go, making networking more of an operational cost than a capital cost. They will provide centralized management with the ability to easily add and remove network and security functionality.
Prior to the pandemic, 88% of telecommunications companies surveyed by J.D. Power allowed, or enabled, only 25% of their agents to operate in work-from-home (WFH) environments. But by July of 2020, 78% of telecommunications companies were at 100% work-from-home. However, not everybody is interested in—or in an optimal position to—work from home 100% of the time. The authors state that their research shows that a significant portion of the contact center workforce became exhausted from the length of time spent working in isolation, and that contact centers must address this issue post-pandemic.
