Intel Revises Its Chip Terminology

Intel is pledging to introduce a faster generation of processors every year through 2025 by embracing new technology that enables smaller and smaller transistors and so more powerful chips. By 2024, the transistors will be so small they will no longer be measured in nanometers as they are today, but in angstroms, which are a tenth as big.

Cisco Takes Aim at Meeting Fatigue with Vidcast

Cisco has unveiled its take on asynchronous video, Vidcast, which is designed to help combat meeting fatigue and enable workers to remain productive without the limitations of time zones or calendar clashes. Users wanting to create a Vidcast can record directly in the Webex platform and accompany their video message with relevant information via screen sharing. Viewers can then offer feedback in real-time by adding emojis to segments of the video or responding with comments or even their own Vidcast.

Juniper Software Triggers Network Response to Threats

Juniper Networks has rolled out Juniper Cloud Workload Protection package - a lightweight software agent that the company says controls application execution and monitors application behavior to help organizations spot and fix anomalies. Cloud Workload Protection deploys in Docker, Kubernetes, and Amazon Web Services’ Fargate container-deployment services at the container, host, or VM level. In addition, there is a small application-specific component that is loaded at runtime.

Amazon, Google Join Government Effort to Fight Ransomware

Amazon, Google and Microsoft are among several tech companies that have agreed to join a government effort to fight ransomware. Crowdstrike, Palo Alto Networks, FireEye, AT&T, Verizon and Lumen have all also agreed to work on the new initiative with Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The group’s work will initially focus on combatting ransomware and creating a framework to respond to incidents impacting cloud providers.

Starlink Speeds Improve, Outpace Other U.S. Satellite Internet Options

Speeds are improving for Starlink’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite Internet service in the U.S., where Ookla Speedtest analysis also found faster median download and upload speeds than other satellite providers. They noted that Starlink “was the only satellite Internet provider in the United States with…median download speeds fast enough to handle most of the needs of modern online life.”
