DH Corporation, a leading provider of technology solutions to FIs globally, announced that it has partnered with Ripple to deliver innovative payment capabilities by integrating Global PAYplus, its global payment services hub, with Ripple`s distributed ledger technology. Financial institutions using Global PAYplus will now be able to link to a secure distributed ledger system, accessible only with permission, to connect interbank networks, and move money domestically and across borders in real-time.

Xamin, a managed service provider for credit unions, and Dynamic Solutions International, a leading provider of data storage solutions, announced a partnership to provide virtual tape library (VTL) storage and IT monitoring services to clients working in highly regulated environments. Together, DSI and Xamin will provide 24-hour system monitoring, backup and replication resource monitoring, system patches and upgrades, and custom alert escalation and workflows.

Bluepoint Solutions announced the first rollout of its redesigned WebShare solution by Las Vegas, NV-based Clark County Credit Union. WebShare, which is part of Bluepoint`s FASTdocs enterprise content management system, includes a web portal with a user interface and self-managed e-mail preferences for electronic delivery of statements and other content.

PerkUp is a newly formed subsidiary of Dolphin Debit that delivers its products – information, advice, entertainment, and prizes (perks) for participation – at no charge to companies and their employees. The PerkUp program is designed to be offered by a sponsoring credit union, so that the credit union can build relationships with the organizations and the people who work for them.




Hardware News

Glory announced a new cash recycling solution called the Vertera ETD (Electronic Teller Drawer). The single-user, single-custody ‘personal cash recycler` replaces a teller`s traditional cash drawer, while also providing lockable space for items such as rolled or loose coins or other items of value. The company says that the new unit reduces the complexity and associated costs of implementing full teller cash recycling in a bank branch, while still realizing many of the benefits.

Shuttle Computer Group, designer of small-form-factor computers, announced its XPC Nano line of barebones computers. The new units include the NC01UBING which is a fully configured system with Windows Bing 8.1 pre-installed, designed specifically for commercial applications. The NC01UBING can be used to drive digital signage, kiosks or other playback functions and comes with 2GB RAM, 32GB SSD and a starting price of $299.

Software Updates

The widespread adoption of cloud applications comes with significant security and compliance concerns. A cloud access security broker (CASB) provides a way to encrypt the data using keys that you control. A CASB also provides a central point for monitoring and managing access to those resources. To protect critical information, applications such as Bitglass will replace all of that sensitive data inside of an application with copies of the data that has been encrypted using keys that you control.

Seculert, a provider of automated attack detection and analytics software, announced a new attack visibility dashboard. With its new Executive Dashboard for CISOs, the Seculert platform helps provide a dynamic view into attack trends and provides a comparative view on how they are performing compared with similar organizations. The Seculert Attack Detection Platform analyzes hundreds of terabytes of log data each week created during all stages of the attack lifecycle to provide IT Departments insight into their security posture. The cloud platform combines contextual attack intelligence with a supervised machine learning analytics engine.

Wincor Nixdorf has launched the new CINEO C2020 that allows users to withdraw cash using a smart phone or a near-field communications (NFC) card. Account holders use these Smart ATMs with the help of a mobile banking app that Wincor Nixdorf provides the credit union and that can be downloaded with the credit union`s own branding from the App Store. Cardholders use the app to select the account from which the funds will be withdrawn and the amount of the withdrawal. They then receive a QR code, which they scan at the ATM`s QR code scanner to identify themselves. NFC technology is also available for authentication as an alternative to the QR code. When cash is withdrawn using an NFC card, users enter their PINs using a special encrypting touch sensor.

Fraud at ATMs and other self-service payments devices, such as pay-at-the-pump gas terminals, is on the rise. For example, a new report from the European ATM Security Team shows that global ATM fraud losses increased 18 percent in the first half of this year, compared to the same period a year ago. Magnetic-stripe transactions at ATMs and gas pumps are currently the status quo due to the fact that the EMV liability shift date is still out in the future, e.g., for ATMs, the liability shift is Oct. 1, 2016 for MasterCard and Oct. 1, 2017 for Visa.

Wireless World

Gro Solutions announced that their Gro Account Opening software now uses the wireless carriers themselves to populate a prospect`s data during the mobile onboarding process. In addition to leveraging the smartphone camera to pull data from a prospect`s driver`s license, the company says that relying on multiple sources to capture data helps ensure credit unions have all of the necessary, up-to-date information they need to process an application. They note that with mobile application attempts growing to more than one-in-three for sites allowing them, their solution will help address the financial industry`s high average abandonment rates of 80 percent or more.

Capital One claims to be the first US FI to add contactless mobile payment capabilities to their Capital One Wallet App. With the new service, any consumers with NFC-enabled Android phones can use their phones to transmit payment directly from their Capital One credit or debit cards to retailers' point-of-sale machines. The company used MasterCard Digital Enablement Service and Visa Token Service to deliver the service and provide security.

Security Section

Cytegic offers tools to help determine an organization's level of security maturity based on the existing controls and the threats that are relevant specifically to them. Executives can view a dashboard that will help them to quickly determine their overall cybersecurity posture. There are three tools in the Cytegic toolset: Dynamic Trend Analysis; Cyber Maturity Assessment; and Cyber Decision Support Systems. Overall, the Cytegic toolset is aimed at helping organizations gain a better understanding of their overall security posture and make strategic decisions about their security controls environment.

Visa and FireEye plan to jointly launch a portal for delivering real-time threat information to merchants and issuers by the end of the year. The portal, dubbed Visa Threat Intelligence Powered by FireEye, will use the partners' proprietary security tools to collect the latest cyber intelligence related to payments and offer alerts on malicious actors, methods and cyberattack trends. It will also share detailed forensic analysis from recent data breaches and include advanced tools for analyzing and isolating malicious indicators from malware to identify suspicious activity from IP addresses and domains.

Many organizations have data in silos, as info from endpoints, networks, cloud services, and security tools all reside in different locations. Logentries is looking to address this issue with their cloud-based log management tools and machine data search capabilities. The Irish company was recently purchased by Rapid7 in order to expand its security data and analytics platform. The new technology from Logentries adds machine data search, forensics, and compliance capabilities to Rapid7's incident detection, investigation, and analytics platform.

Technology and Marketing

Some email marketing experts contend that you can essentially ignore the desktop when creating a design template for your email alerts and marketing messages. They point to recent email marketing research that discovered that two-thirds of Americans regularly check email via smartphone and that total opens of emails on mobile devices can run as high as 70%. That number is up 500% from 2010. They also point out that the majority of emails that render well on mobile devices also look fine on PCs - but not the opposite. Constant Contact has these 5 recommendations for creating mobile-friendly emails:

1. Be as concise as possible in both design and content

2. Use a single column template

3. Use a single, clear call to action

4. Avoid tiny fonts

5. Take it easy on images

Online Banking/E-Commerce/Website Design

Oracle announced the availability of Oracle Banking Digital Experience that they state brings new comprehensive capabilities to FIs seeking a digital transformation of customer and product acquisitions, business services, including payments innovation and customer financial insight. It provides more than 250 business services out of the box, including digital account and loan origination, digital wallets and mobile payments.

Hip Pocket has come out with a new PFM Savings Tool called Hip Money. It comes with a Swipe to Save feature and includes personal financial management tools, budgeting capabilities and analysis of users` cash flows to help optimize for saving. The startup says that Hip Money can be white-labeled and made part of an existing mobile banking app.

EMV is old news in Australia, so much so that PIN-based authorizations are rapidly being surpassed by more convenient contactless (NFC) technology. The growth in contactless payments has been accompanied by a decline in the frequency of contact (i.e. chip and PIN) payments, particularly by younger consumers. In fact by some accounts, Australia now leads the world in contactless payments, with recent reports estimating 53 percent of the population have made a contactless payment.

Internet Access

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a huge buzzword right now, with various estimates putting the number of deployed devices at anywhere from 35 - 50 billion by 2020 (and somewhere around 15 billion today). IoT devices can include (but aren't limited to): wearables, mobile point of sale devices, appliances, health monitors, intelligent shopping carts, and security and HVAC systems. Branch beacon technology is an especially intriguing IoT technology for credit unions that would automatically identify members as they enter the branch. Other potential banking IoT applications include integration into mobile banking apps, watches, and interactive ATMs and kiosks.

Marketing automation (MA) software can help marketers track a member`s behavior as they navigate around the credit union's website. MA software also includes triggers for email marketing campaigns and can even integrate with snail mail campaigns via personal URLs or personalized QR codes that are printed on direct mail pieces. Popular MA vendors include Eloqua, HubSpot, IfusionSoft, Marketo and Pardot.

Call Centers

Many credit unions have member surveys that they use to gather data and obtain member feedback. However, some contact centers take it a step further and poll their agents on a regular basis. Agents should have a great firsthand sense of the typical problems and challenges that your members encounter. Supervisors and agents can work together to determine the top issues and those with the biggest overall impact - and then work together as a team to find solutions.
