How Intel Core Chips Could Take over Two-Factor Authentication from Your Phone

Password manager Dashlane is one of the first consumer-facing companies to take advantage of a little-known feature within Intel’s 8th-generation Core chips that could become much more popular: enabling two-factor authentication with just your PC, and not your phone. What’s known as Universal Second Factor (U2F) authentication lives within the 8th-generation Core architecture. Intel’s 8th-gen Core architecture and its associated software cut out the need for a phone, simply requiring you to click a software “button” to authenticate the 2FA transaction.

eMarketer Releases Latest Estimates for US Proximity Mobile Payments

Over the past few years, the use of mobile devices for financial activities has expanded from simply checking an account balance to include other types of transactions, such as proximity payments and peer-to-peer (P2P) fund transfers. eMarketer estimates the value of US proximity mobile payment transactions will total $49.29 billion in 2017, up 78.1% from last year. Also, the average annual spend per proximity mobile payment user in the US will reach $1,026 in 2017, surpassing $1,000 for the first time.

Improve Banking in Mobile Channels, Listen and Embrace New Tech

These days, simply offering mobile banking is not enough. Unless it’s easy and convenient to use, consumers won’t download an app or use your mobile website. Research reveals that 84% of financial institutions rate their current mobile experience a seven or higher on a 10-point scale, many are flattering themselves. FIs must create mobile interfaces that provide immediate, painless access to everyday tasks and information. More specifically, making payment options, comprehensive loan information, account balances and branch location information easily accessible within the mobile app’s home screen will have a significant impact.

If Blockchain Is the Answer, What Is the Security Question?

Blockchain technology has made its way into a wide range of business environments, solving problems from securing land registry records to ensuring that music royalties are paid fairly. To the casual observer, this technology enhances any business relationship, especially when parties are distributed or distrustful. However, like QR codes in the '00s or, more recently, big data, blockchains are appearing a little too frequently and sometimes with dubious business benefits. The article considers the most talked about capabilities of blockchains and examine the reality behind the claims.

Merchandising Is Essential to a Profitable Branch

When used strategically, a branch merchandising program can establish a powerful, personal, and long-lasting relationship. In best practices, merchandising can be one of the most powerful marketing tools, one that communicates with visitors in a multi-sensory way. The more you can reach people through sight, sound, touch and interactivity, the more relevant you become, resulting in the opportunity to establish a strong emotional connection with your branch visitors.

Application Layer DDoS Attacks Rising

DDoS attacks that target the application layer tend to be smaller and can go unnoticed until it’s too late. These types of attacks are often referred to as “slow-rate” or “low and slow” attacks, meaning they target applications in a way that they look like actual requests from users until they become overburdened and can no longer respond. Application layer attacks, or layer 7 attacks as they are often called, are typically part of a multi-vector DDoS attack target not only applications, but also the network and bandwidth.
