West Virginia FCU Selects Sharetec

Sharetec System announced that West Virginia Federal Credit Union in South Charleston, WV has made the decision to implement Sharetec as its new core processing solution. The credit union has 33 employees and $125 million in assets, and is expected to move forward with the implementation by the end of the second quarter of 2019.

NCUA Selects ComplianceTech for Several Solutions

NCUA has selected several solutions from ComplianceTech for examiners to use for onsite and off-site fair lending supervision and monitoring. The agency will use the company’s LendingPatterns and Fair Lending Magic offerings.

Hitachi Vantara Data Center Products

Hitachi Vantara recently launched a range of new hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) systems, software management, and automation tools. They updated their Unified Compute Platform, or UCP, line of converged and hyperconverged infrastructure offerings with an all-NVMe SSD storage solution. The V124N comes with hyperconverged appliances, offering up to eight NVMe SSDs plus up to four 3D XPoint-based Intel Optane SSDs for high-performance caching of the SSDs. On the software side, Hitachi Vantara upgraded its Hitachi UCP Advisor IT management and orchestration software with new automated and rule-based deployment policies.

Cash: It's Still King

The volume of cash, meaning the number of Federal Reserve notes, has risen for 17 consecutive years. The 41.6 billion bills in circulation at year-end 2017 were worth $1.6 trillion, also a record that has climbed as more paper money has gone into circulation this year. There are now more $100 notes out there than $1 bills – a recent development – with $20 bills next most common, followed in order by $5s, $10s, $50s and $2 bills.

Upgrade ATMs or Buy New Ones?

The coming changeover to a new Windows operating system for ATMs is forcing many credit unions to take a hard look at their capital expenditure options. For the machines that can be upgraded, the cost of outfitting them with the new Windows 10 operating system will run anywhere from $6,000 to $12,000 per ATM, states the author.

A Year After Spectre and Meltdown, How Well Do Patches Work?

Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities are collectively known as "transient execution attacks," which have proven difficult to patch. Fundamentally, as Spectre and Meltdown are hardware-level vulnerabilities, patching around them in software is an order of magnitude more difficult than software vulnerabilities. The current status is available mitigations are a work-in-progress. It is unclear if the vulnerabilities can be completely patched through microcode and software updates.

Michigan State University FCU's Pop-up Shop Pops up Again

During the busy shopping season, Michigan State University Federal Credit Union set up a pop-up shop in a local mall to lure in new business and as a way to provide financial education to the community. The program was successful enough in 2017 in East Lansing that the $4.1 billion-asset credit union revamped it for the 2018 holiday season, setting up a similar storefront in Grand Rapids.

With a Strong Mobile Lift, Virtual Cards Are Close to Dominating B2B Card Payments

Corporate cards, purchasing cards, and virtual cards will account for $523 billion in U.S. commercial card volume, up 10% from 2017, according to research from Accenture Payments. Of the 2018 total, virtual cards, which are non-plastic accounts typically tied to accounts-receivable systems and represented by a digital token, will total $169 billion in spend, up fully 24% from last year. Indeed, virtual cards are by far the fastest-growing of the three commercial card categories studied by Accenture, with a compound annual growth rate of 21% over the five years from 2017 to 2022.

A New Study Commissioned by Snapchat Reveals How Millennials Shop

When it comes to how millennials spend their money, 73 percent prefer to use a debit or credit card, with the average person owning three credit cards. Some of the biggest purchases on credit cards include clothes (56 percent), travel (53 percent), tech (52 percent) and restaurants (52 percent). Mobile payments like Apple Pay or Google Pay were also used by the millennials surveyed in the past three months.

Which Cloud Performs Better, AWS, Azure or Google?

Performance varies only somewhat in the US among the big three cloud service providers – AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure – and their networks are a big reason why, a ThousandEyes study reveals. The network management company looked at network performance (latency, packet loss, jitter) and connectivity architecture. Their research showed that in the US Internet performance and private network performance don’t vary that much between the Big 3, so users are not likely to notice a difference.

LivePerson Launches Maven

LivePerson, a provider of conversational commerce solutions, has launched Maven, a conversational AI that enables organizations to augment or replace traditional websites and 800-numbers with personalized conversations over SMS, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Google RCS Business Messaging, Amazon Alexa, and other popular messengers and voice assistants. The company says that their AI is designed to be taught and managed by contact center agents.
