Xpress Data, Inc. How to Clean Inside Dirty Servers: Good Advice from Experts

Dirt, dust and debris inside a server (or storage or switch) can impede airflow, which creates extra heat, which causes all kinds of trouble related to overworked fans. Some experts recommend that you do not take down equipment only to clean it - rather, make cleaning it a standard practice when it is taken down for other reasons. Others note that servers should be cleaned from dust every year or two. Servers should not be taken apart to clean, but compressed air can be used once the covers are off.



Servers with AI and ML Coprocessors Will Go Mainstream by 2020

Servers with specialized coprocessors for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) will go mainstream by 2020 and account for 10% of the global server shipments, according to IHS Markit's Data Center Server Equipment Market Tracker report. They predict a steady ramp up of investment in servers with coprocessors, especially for servers with general-purpose graphics processing units (GPUs) and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs.)

Group Forms to Tackle Consumer Data-Sharing

FDX - a subsidiary of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) - has introduced an interoperable standard and operating framework centred on an API called the Durable Data API (DDA). Large banks are backing FDX, alongside a host of firms, including Intuit, Xero and Yodlee - they all want access to consumer account data. The group said "the launch of FDX marks an industry turning-point toward the standardization of more secure financial data sharing."

BBVA Launches Open Banking Platform in the US

BBVA has officially launched its Banking-as-a-Service platform in the US, using APIs to let firms offer consumers financial products without having to take on fulling banking themselves. The Spanish giant has been operating its Open Platform in beta for six months, allowing third parties that pass security and compliance checks to access, through APIs, a range of their services. Organizations plug into a core digital platform and then access APIs including Move Money, Identity Verification, Account Origination, and Card Issuance services.

Zyxel Communications has launched Zyxel SD-WAN which is a software-defined wide area network solution that is designed to mitigate network issues. In addition to the ability to identify applications and prioritize traffic on the local network, WAN optimization provides load balancing and high-availability to ensure maximum uptime and minimize the effects of latency and jitter for critical applications such as VoIP and video conferencing.



Cato Networks Adds Self-Healing SD-WAN

Cato Networks announced the expansion of its self-healing SD-WAN capabilities, as well as an update to its network security rules. Because it's cloud-based, Cato Networks said that they are able to eliminate edge devices, VNFs and standalone services that would normally hamper high-availability configurations in networks. They claim that they are able to solve high-availability issues via their distributed cloud-scale packet engine.
