Contactless payments have yet to achieve critical mass in the U.S., at only about 3 percent of transactions, according to NMI. The article states that “as card issuers begin accelerating their issuance of cards with EMV contactless capability, we believe we’re going to see contactless surge.” It posits that as merchants have the infrastructure in place, and consumers have the cards in their pockets, use cases will start ramping up.

The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), an industry consortium dedicated to reducing cyber-risk in the global financial system, said that some 73 percent of CISOs of FIs plan to ask their organization’s CFO for an increase in cybersecurity investments in the next year. The survey also found that 56 percent of the respondents said 10 percent or less of their organization’s overall budget is dedicated to cybersecurity. Of that 10 percent, a majority (54 percent) cited IT infrastructure and asset management as the area that receives the most funding.
Compliance is an auditing, paperwork, checklist mentality. Security is a tactical, real-world cybersecurity, risk-reduction mentality. Both are supposedly working at the same goal: to reduce cybersecurity risk, but the author goes on to discuss how focusing exclusively on compliance can undermine security.
