Financial Leaders Grappling with More Aggressive and Sophisticated Attack Methods
VMware released a report which takes the pulse of the financial industry’s top CISOs and security leaders on the changing behavior of cybercriminal cartels and the defensive shift of the financial sector. The report found that FIs are facing increased destructive attacks and falling victim to ransomware more than in years’ past, as sophisticated cybercrime cartels evolve beyond wire transfer fraud to now target market strategies, take over brokerage accounts and island hop into FIs. In the Modern Bank Heists report, 63% of FIs admitted experiencing an increase in destructive attacks, with cybercriminals leveraging this method as a means to burn evidence as part of a counter incident response. Additionally, 74% experienced at least one ransomware attack over the past year, with 63% paying the ransom.
Prevailion ARKTOS Allows Network Testing Against Real World Malware Threats
Prevailion launched ARKTOS, a malware replication platform that they say allows organizations to safely test their network security readiness against the world’s most challenging early-stage malware. The solution uses “Malware Replication Profiles” (MRPs) which are nearly identical to the APT and commodity malware found in the wild (although without the risk of real malicious activity). This allows organizations to go beyond the limitations of security program audits and vulnerability scans to actually test how well their cybersecurity defenses might hold up against early-stage attacks.

The Secure Service Edge Based on Software and the Cloud Will Win the Day as SD-WANs Fade
The author predicts that Secure Service Edge (SSE) that takes technologies like remote access gateway, secure web gateway, cloud service access broker, and zero-trust network will be the best worker connectivity model going forward. He says that SD-WAN will simply act as an on-ramp to the SSE service platform. It will not function as the primary means for connecting to an organization going forward - it will just be one of the abstracted paths the SSE-delivered service will travel on top of to deliver your applications fast and securely to your staff wherever they may be located.

Pindrop Report Finds Fraudsters Passed Knowledge Based Authentication Questions 92% of the Time
Pindrop released its annual Voice Intelligence & Security Report uncovering how organizations might be accidentally inviting fraud, threat mongers from the dark web and bad actors better prepared to pass authentication. Data dealers are growing more sophisticated, offering more service, more details, and more organized information. Because of this, 2021 was a record breaking year for data breaches. In fact, Pindrop found that bad actors actually had better performance than genuine customers at answering “security questions.” In fact, 92% of fraudsters passed knowledge based authentication (KBA) questions based on a national contact center case study, while genuine customers only passed KBA’s forty-six percent of the time.
