Enhanced Software Products (ESP), the Spokane, WA-based credit union Data Processing company, announced that Community Healthcare FCU in Everett, WA has chosen FORZA3 for their new core processing system. The credit union is deploying in Service Bureau mode, and also implementing Online ATM/Debit & Credit Cards and other ESP paperless and mobile offerings.
IMM, a leading provider of integrated eSignature, workflow and document solutions for credit unions, announced that Antigo, WI-based CoVantage Credit Union has fully implemented its eSignature solution, TotaleAtlas. CoVantage is using the solution to manage consumer lending and account management processes, as well as for tax-advantaged account processes such as IRA accounts.
Jack Henry & Associates' Symitar division announced that CFE Federal Credit Union is live with their Episys system for in-house core processing. CFE Federal Credit Union will also implement several complementary solutions: ImageCenter for Check 21 processing; RemitPlus Remittance/Lockbox; Synergy Document Management; Synapsys for CRM; and Advanced Reporting for Credit Unions for data warehousing and reporting.
Fiserv, a leading global provider of financial services technology solutions, announced that Georgia's Own Credit Union, based in Atlanta, has expanded its relationship with Fiserv by selecting DNA. In addition to DNA, Georgia's Own has selected: Verifast, Wisdom 5300 Call Report Assistant, the DNAcreator toolkit, and several DNAapps.
Hewlett-Packard's All-Flash 3PAR StoreServ 8000 Storage systems feature automated provisioning, hardware-accelerated deduplication, and flash-optimized performance with sub-1ms latency. HP claims that you can deploy their all-flash platform at the same cost as hard disk drives: $1.50 per usable GB via inline deduplication.
Meanwhile, Reduxio is touting the benefits of their HX 550 Flash Hybrid storage system. They contend that since the introduction of snapshots, there have been no major innovations in data management capabilities for primary storage. In response, they developed Reduxio BackDating which they claim can instantly recover data from any second in the system`s history with no upfront planning or data copy. It uses in-line, in-memory dedupe and compression, and supports VMware, Microsoft and Oracle.
Microsoft's Power BI Desktop is an end-to-end solution for building analytics. It features data shaping and modeling capabilities and is designed to make publishing and sharing your interactive reports easy. Users can pull data from a wide range of cloud services, including MailChimp, Zendesk, Salesforce, QuickBooks, Twilio, GitHub, Google Analytics, etc. The software giant sees the package as a strong complement to Excel.
HyTrust announced the 4.5 release of their updated CloudControl appliance that adds security automation to an existing VMware vSphere infrastructure. Installed as a virtual appliance, CloudControl gives administrators wide visibility into their overall virtualized environment. Once sitting on that management plane of your vSphere environment, it acts as a watchdog, policing administrative requests. It can also institute password policies and two-factor authentication on the VMware infrastructure.
Sageworks, a credit risk management solution provider, announced their Electronic Tax Return Reader which they describe as the first of its kind within the banking market. The module auto-imports financial data from borrowers` tax returns when files are those directly produced by leading tax packages. The company estimates credit unions can save a significant amount of time – as much as 1.5 hours – on data entry per borrower, assuming an average of three returns per entity. The software is a complimentary upgrade to the entire suite of Sageworks software.
Over the past year, Diebold has unveiled three new lines of ATMs—standard market, extended branch and now, the high-performance line. The new units feature ActivView, a secondary 7-inch touch screen display that promotes enhanced privacy by transferring personal information from the primary display to the lower secondary display. This prohibits an onlooker's visibility to important consumer information and also promotes ADA compliance. The ATMs come with a new advanced cash dispensing platform, ActivCash, which the company claims averages 50 percent greater cassette note capacity when compared to competitor ATMs. The machines also come with the ActivPower smart power management system that can reduce idle power consumption to less than 100 watts, the ActivGuard intelligent alarm system, and a large 19-inch touchscreen display. In addition, ActivEdge, an anti-skimming card reader, is available as an option.
Interactive teller machines (ITMs) are growing in popularity as a way to extend hours and footprint. ITMs (AKA personal teller machines, remote tellers, and video tellers) allow credit unions to centralize teller staff and eliminate robberies. Some machines are video teller-only driven, while others offer ATM functionality when not staffed. All machines must be properly placed, e.g., inside the branch, you need to consider privacy, while outside you must take glare into consideration. Finally, staffing will need to be adjusted when adding ITMs - some credit unions add extra employees for two to three months after opening a new or retrofitted ITM location to be on hand to train members.

Some analysts believe that mobile is not a subset of the Internet anymore, but that it is becoming the main way that people use the Internet. Benedict Evans of Andreessen Horowitz states that "it's time to invert that mental model - there is not the 'mobile internet' and the internet. Rather, if anything, it's the internet and the 'desktop internet.'" Recent survey data from the UK shows an interesting point: mobile devices have overtaken PCs for Internet access for young people, as well as for lower income people.
The Secret Service has noted a steady increase in near field communication (NFC) payment fraud over the past few months. The Secret Service advisory urged FIs and retailers to be vigilant in their vetting processes for mobile payments by using tools such as:
- Geolocation (GPS, cellular triangulation, IP)
- Device fingerprinting
- Usage patterns
- Sharing of registration data across FIs to identify duplicate registration attempts
Thirty nine percent of respondents use mobile devices for banking at least once a month, with twenty three percent using mobile banking at least three times per month, according to a recent Ipsos Public Affairs survey. Plus, the percentage of mobile device owners who never use those devices for banking dropped from 45 percent in 2014 to 42 percent this year. These survey results closely parallel the findings in a March 2015 report by the Federal Reserve, which found that 52 percent of smartphone owners with a FI account have used mobile banking in the previous 12 months.

Vulnerability management (VM) technologies scan network endpoints such as desktops and mobile devices against a library of known bad binaries and configuration errors in an effort to reduce an organization's attack surface. Many observers are noting that VM scanning is changing as continuous monitoring takes precedence over regularly scheduled scans. Additionally, VM vendors are steadily enhancing their packages by adding functionality such as endpoint posture assessment, network mapping, compliance auditing and reporting, log management and even endpoint knowledge to their portfolio.
Feedzai, a company that uses real-time, machine-based learning to analyze big data, announced a partnership with Socure, a provider of real-time online identity verification solutions. They plan to offer a "plug-and-play" solution that combines online and social data-based authentication with fraud risk scoring. Feedzai also announced updates to its software platform that provide improved risk management and fraud prevention solutions. Its machine learning software is now being used for a variety of financial applications beyond transaction authorization, such as new account opening and loss prevention.

Startup Empyr is an online-to-offline ad platform for card issuers. Their platform can work with any debit or credit card and allows members to get cash back at restaurants, gas, grocery etc., while participating credit unions earn revenue from each transaction. The company points out that 93% of commerce is offline, representing a 4 trillion dollar market. They say that the Empyr platform is designed to keep everything from linking a card to reward notification under your brand, and that the credit union earns money on every offer redeemed forever, just like an annuity.
MasterCard has launched a new Digital Enablement Express (Express) program designed to expedite the process of digitizing and tokenizing MasterCard accounts through the MasterCard Digital Enablement Service (MDES). MasterCard states that with Express, MasterCard partners - digital wallet providers, device manufacturers, card on file merchants and other digital payment providers - have a simple onboarding process to engage with all participating FIs. In conjunction with the announcement of Express, MasterCard also announced that Google and Samsung have joined the program.
Ninety percent of U.S. financial institutions either have begun issuing chip (EMV) debit cards or currently plan to do so by the end of 2015, according to the 2015 Debit Issuer Study commissioned by PULSE. Based on these plans, 25 percent of U.S. debit cards - approximately 71 million cards - will be migrated to chip by the end of 2015. The percentage is expected to rise to 73 percent by the end of 2016 and 96 percent by the end of 2017.
Verizon is now offering a Managed Software Defined Wide Area Network (Managed SD-WAN) service for organizations using Cisco`s ISR and ASR branch routers. Among the features of the service are integrated application optimization for improved and faster application performance; intelligent path control to utilize both MPLS and the Internet connections through Cisco`s Performance Routing technology; and faster provisioning of new sites and services in a hybrid WAN.
Scam artists are routinely using poorly configured/misconfigured Domain Name System (DNS) servers to launch DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. Security experts advise that for internal DNS servers, make sure the only queries that your DNS responds to come from internal computers and other authorized DNS servers. They also recommend implementing response rate limiting (RRL). If your DNS server does not yet support RRL, you can try to accomplish the same effect using alternate methods, such as using firewall rate filters or enabling other anti-DDoS services to complement your DNS. Finally, they say that you should scan for computers and devices accepting connections to TCP or UDP port 53 to find and securely configure all computers and devices running DNS services.
Verint and Vidyo announced that they are collaborating on cloud-based visual communication technology to bring video support tools to contact centers. Video calls delivered by Vidyo will be integrated with Verint`s engagement management and voice recording solutions. The VidyoWorks platform is a software-based video collaboration solution. Verint`s engagement management solution uses knowledge-based interaction support and voice recording software to provide compliance recording.
