Sharetec System, one of the fastest growing core systems, announced that Post Office Employees FCU (POEFCU) in Shreveport, LA, has selected the Sharetec System as their new core system provider. POEFCU will also be providing their members with Bill Pay/Picture Pay, Mobile Banking, Home Banking, online loan applications, and additional Sharetec solutions.

Fujitsu announced the launch of Smart Origination, customer onboarding technology developed in partnership with ImageWare Systems, InAuth, Intelligent Environments, Mitek and Trunomi. The group says that their joint proposition enables credit unions to collect, process and verify documents and the identity of new applicants in less than five minutes.

West Michigan-based CU*Answers kicked off the implementation of a year-long project to revamp the navigation system used by its CU*BASE core processing system. The new features were introduced to credit union CEOs attending the CUSO's recent CEO Strategies event.

Jack Henry & Associates' ProfitStars division announced a fully hosted version of its remittance solution, RemitPlus Express. The company states that RemitPlus Express eliminates the need for multiple employees to manually sort, reconcile, process, endorse and post payments, significantly reducing labor costs as well as the potential for human error.




Hardware News

According to a new report by Zscaler, networked security cameras are the most likely devices to have vulnerabilities when it comes to securing IoT (Internet of Things) devices in the enterprise. The company recommends that any organization that deploys surveillance cameras should restrict access to the devices as much as possible, by blocking external ports or placing devices on isolated networks, to prevent lateral movement. They should also change default credentials, set up a process to apply regular security and firmware updates, and ensure that the devices do not pass usernames and passwords in clear text.

Traditionally ADC (application delivery control) products have been optimized for on premise applications, but now vendors such as F5 are making it easier to use the their load balancer, firewall and other application delivery services not only in data centers but in the public cloud. When customers buy a license for F5's latest Big-IP iSeries, the license works in the public clouds from Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Oracle as well. Plus, it now supports the node.JS programming language and integrates with private cloud platforms such as those from OpenStack, Cisco and VMware.

Software Updates

Microsoft SCCM is a platform for managing Microsoft desktops and applications, but is unable to patch non-Microsoft applications. One option for handling these applications is Patch Connect Plus which is a tool that helps deploy patches to over 250 third party applications. The program from ManageEngine works with your existing Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager server to patch applications such as Adobe applications, Java and WinRAR.

Client Health from Adaptiva is an endpoint health and security engine that helps improve IT efficiency and response rates by automatically checking a device`s health, diagnosing problems, and fixing issues. The software comes prepackaged with 75 automated client health checks that help identify and fix issues across 16 different endpoint management categories including security, Windows operating system configuration, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager client health, and more. The new release also includes a drag-and-drop WorkFlow Designer which organizations can use to create custom health checks and remediation processes.

Experian launched Extended Trade, which is part of Credit3D, a suite of credit risk-management tools to help lenders translate enormous quantities of trended data into insights. Extended Trade features 18 new trade-level fields that provide trended insights for more precise targeting. Twenty four months of historical balance, credit limit, scheduled payment, actual payment and payment date are now available on Experian's consumer credit reports.

Cummins Allison, a provider of coin, currency and check processing technologies, as well as ATMs, announced the release of JetLink Remote Management, an entry level solution that supports its full range of ATM products. The software centralizes ATM management functions and can run from a PC via any supported web browser. Administrators can also use the program to oversee dispute resolutions and marketing campaigns for their fleet.

The European ATM Security Team has published its third fraud update for 2016 and in it they found that the top three locations for skimming related losses were the USA, Indonesia and India. ATM malware and logical security attacks were reported by eight countries, all involving the usage (or attempted usage) of ‘black-box` devices to allow the unauthorized dispensing of cash. Meanwhile, ram raids and ATM burglaries were reported by nine countries and eleven countries reported explosive gas attacks.

Veridium's 4 Fingers TouchlessID, which is part of VeridiumID, uses the rear camera on a smartphone to simultaneously capture the four fingerprints of the index, middle, ring, and little fingers. The four prints are compared to those stored and when the match is confirmed, access is granted. Security Section

EventTracker HoneyNet is a cyber-defense product that helps thwart attempts by attackers to gain information about a private network. Comprised of multiple virtualized decoys strategically scattered throughout the network to lure bad actors, honeynets can provide intelligence about malicious activity against the network. In action, it alerts network administrators of suspicious activity, and provides them with an in-depth situational awareness view of their network.

Neo is a penetration testing device that attaches to your network and automatically configures itself to your network. In addition to the small appliance version, there is also a VM version. The software allows customization of the scans and vulnerability insights are pulled from sources like exploit-db and CVE as well as some of Neo's own resources. Neo runs between $100 (for up to 25 IP addresses) and $500 (for unlimited IPs) a month and it will provide advice on how to resolve the detected problems.

Gurucul has added hybrid behavior analytics models to its Gurucul Risk Analytics platform which can detect unknown security threats and identity access risks that span both cloud and on premises environments. The company also recently introduced hybrid DLP behavior models that use data sources from both infrastructures to identify and prevent data exfiltration. They say that their new hybrid behavior analytics models build upon the Gurucul Hybrid Behavior Analytics architecture and Gurucul`s decoupled support for on premise and cloud data lakes.

Technology and Marketing

Chatbots are automated software agents that offer a natural way of engaging with consumers and typically work with social media or popular messaging platforms, and often integrate artificial intelligence to give consumers instant responses. Many marketers believe that they have a bright future, but a recent report from Forrester Research found that chatbots often don`t meet consumer expectations. However, the researchers noted that simple chatbots with narrow applications do work well, mainly due to much fewer set of potential responses and commands. The report offered various suggestions on how organizations can effectively deploy chatbots and two of them were:

- take time to develop a comprehensive chatbot strategy as opposed to jumping right in

- have contact center agents ready to quickly intervene and take over existing chatbot conversations

Online Banking/E-Commerce/Website Design

The Department of Justice is expected to issue website guidelines for assisting people with visual and hearing disabilities in 2018, but many legal experts are advising FIs to take action now. The guidelines will include steps such as adding audio for blind consumers and text alternatives for deaf consumers. The Justice Department's guidelines may be based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 from the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Accessibility Initiative.

Javelin Strategy & Research announced the winners of the Javelin Online Banking Leader awards for those financial institutions that have distinguished themselves by providing an outstanding online banking experience. Navy Federal Credit Union earned the 2016 Javelin Best Overall Online Banking Leader award for this inaugural edition, earning 67% of the total points possible. The 2016 Javelin Online Banking Leader is awarded in the following categories:

- Financial Management: offering information to support good financial habits, including displaying alerts on the home page, prominently displaying bills that are due on the dashboard, and alerting consumers if they are at risk of overdraft

- Money Movement: providing features that speed the chores of paying bills, transfers, and person-to-person payments, and enabling customers to evaluate cash flow from paycheck to paycheck and beyond

- Consumer-First Banking: offering features that can help people develop healthy financial habits, including recommending the use of direct deposit as an automated saving tool that can build an emergency fund or pay periodic bills, and features that can shed light on debt and financial well-being

Visa is working with vendor BioConnect on an app that uses multiple biometric technologies so that when the default option fails, a user can just switch to another. The app also works across multiple devices. Bringing multiple biometric authentication options to a single app is designed to circumvent the option to bypass biometrics with a password or PIN, which results in a weak link the security chain.

Internet Access

Some observers see network access control (NAC) morphing into the software-defined perimeter (SDP). SDP includes NAC functionality such as device authentication and health checking, but also adds functionality such as user authentication, attribute-based policy support, risk-based policy support, network segmentation capabilities, and more. Cryptzone and Vidder are two firms that offer SDP solutions.

Gartner predicts that by 2020, SD-WAN sales will be worth about $1.25 billion, representing a 15 percent compound annual rise. Meanwhile, router sales are expected to drop by 23 percent, and branch office router sales by more than 60 percent by 2020, as 50 percent of all enterprise routers are replaced by SD-WAN. Proponents argue that choosing a SD-WAN to reduce WAN costs and complexity is a no-brainer because SD-WANs can be rapidly installed, require little capital expenditure, and can dramatically reduce operational expenditures.

Call Centers

Speech and natural language technology provider Interactions announced the availability of Voice Biometrics for caller authentication within its Intelligent Virtual Assistant. They say that the combination provides a conversational caller experience that increases security and speeds caller care interactions. They state that unlike other voice biometrics solutions that require agent intervention or lengthy enrollments, Interactions Voice Biometrics provides full caller authentication with minimal enrollment effort. The software supports both active and passive authentication options.
