White box vendors are taking off like a shot in the data center, with ODM sales now accounting for the largest group of server sales, surpassing HPE. The ODMs are les expensive, offer more customization in configuring the hardware, and tend to be a little more aggressive in coming out with new hardware than traditional server vendors such as Lenovo, Dell and HPE. 



HPE Accelerates Hybrid IT for SMBs with New Infrastructure Offerings

A suite of new infrastructure products from HPE may help boost hybrid IT efforts among SMBs. HPE's new entry-level SimpliVity 380 HCI product brings all-flash storage to mid-sized organizations, along with the firm's flash portfolio are the new HPE MSA storage arrays and HPE Nimble Storage flash arrays. On the server side, HPE announced that its ProLiant ML110 Gen10, ProLiant ML350 Gen10, and ProLiant DL580 Gen10 servers were now available for SMB IT environments.

Palo Alto Networks announced the availability of its new cloud-based Logging Service, which allows customers to amass large amounts of their own data from the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform. This new service is designed for machine learning and advanced analytics in order to help correlate potential threats and prevent successful cyber breaches.



Microsoft Announces Office 2019 for Customers Who Don't Want to Pay Forever for Office 365

Office 2019 will ship in the second half of 2018, Microsoft said, with a preview version scheduled for mid-2018. The Office 2019 suite will include the standard complement of Office apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, plus server apps like Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business.



Libre Office 5 Review: The Open Source Office Alternative

Like Open Office, Libre Office includes includes six programs: Write (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentation), Base (database management), Draw (vector graphics) and Math (mathematical formulae). There is no charge to use it on Windows, Mac, and Linux desktops.

Hackers Want to Crack FI ATM Networks - and Your Nearest Cash Machine Is Probably Running Windows XP

Hackers are looking to crack ATM networks without needing physical access to the devices. Meanwhile many cash machines are running antiquated versions of Windows like Windows XP.



As 'ATM-Ageddon' Looms

The VISA ATM liability shift occurred on October 1st. So, will VISA and the other networks blink and continue to absorb fraud losses at non-EMV ATMs? Is the liability shift risk worth the reward for generally low transaction sites? While the answers to these questions will determine the degree of contraction, it would appear that there will be far fewer retail ATMs in operation in the U.S. by early 2018 — as many as 40 percent fewer.

New Mobile Banking Study Released

Today's consumers are banking everyday and everywhere on their mobile devices - at work, at home and even when socializing with friends - according to Citi's inaugural Mobile Banking study. According to the study, the average consumer mobile banks an average of seven days per month (more than 10 days per month for Millennials). The study concludes that "institutions that do not invest in cutting edge technology to improve their mobile capabilities will lag those who prioritize the features and enhancements that customers say are essential to their banking experience."

40% of Apple Users to Spurn Facial Recognition

A new survey conducted by Juniper Research has found that over 40% of iOS users in the US consider themselves unlikely to use facial recognition as a payment security technology. This suggests that a core use case for the iPhone X’s main security feature may struggle to gain traction amongst consumers. Contactless payment users considered fingerprint sensors and voice recognition more appealing authentication methods, with 74% and 62% respectively saying they are likely to use these technologies.
