A new report entitled The 2020 TCO Study of Microsoft WSUS & SCCM states that “selecting a SaaS-based patch management solution over a legacy provider minimizes the risk of financial impact.” It claims that organizations using Microsoft endpoint management for patching and hardening spend nearly 2x as much as organizations using SaaS-based patch management platforms.



New Encryption Standards Will Soon Sweep Away Security Controls

Transport layer security (TLS) and DNS, two of the foundational protocols of the Internet, have recently undergone radical changes to protect browser user privacy. At the same time, they will reduce security on-premises in the short term, and security professionals must put tools in place in the next couple of years, a new report from Forrester Research states. "While [the protocols] hide user activity from the searching eyes of nation-states and ISPs, they also hide valuable metadata from enterprise network inspection tools," according to Forrester Research.

Freetouch Launches Smartphone Based Contactless Solution for Touchscreens

Freetouch has introduced a patent pending contactless solution that enables anyone with a smartphone to remotely interact with shared touchscreens. The software eliminates the need for physical contact with kiosks, ATMs and other interactive displays. Freetouch adds a visible cursor overlay to existing PC applications, effectively turning a smartphone into a trackpad for contactless remote control of touchscreens. Users simply snap a QR code to connect to a shared display. No app download or registration is required, and the user's information remains secure and anonymous. An interface lets users click, drag and scroll and perform multi-touch gestures safely on their own device to interact with touchscreen applications.

IBM and Verizon Business Collaborate to Merge AI Computing with 5G Networks

The two companies' partnership will harness Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband 5G network—which rolled out in 30 cities across the US in 2019—its Multi-access Edge Computing, its ThingSpace IoT Platform and Critical Asset Sensor solution (CAS), together with IBM's Maximo Monitor with IBM Watson and advanced analytics. Report Finds Hackers Using More Aggressive and Destructive Tactics

The Global Incident Response Threat Report from VMware Carbon Black found an increase in counter-incident responses (IR)—mostly destruction of logs (50%) and diversion (44%)—signaling attackers' increasingly punitive nature and the rise of destructive attacks. Survey respondents named remote access inefficiencies (52%), VPN vulnerabilities (45%) and shortage of available or skilled staff (36%) as the biggest endpoint security challenges related to the pandemic.

Microsoft's Endpoint Data Loss Prevention is a new product that adds device-level data loss prevention to Microsoft's broader DLP offerings. It is enabled natively with Windows 10 deployments and is native to the new Microsoft Edge browser.
