Sharetec System announced that Sharetec Credit Unions have scored Sharetec service with the highest score to date since its beginning 28 years ago. For 2019, Sharetec announced a record score of 9.34 out of a possible 10.
Symitar announced that Community Choice CU and Rio Grande CU will use the Commercial Lending Center Suite to help streamline their commercial lending processes. Both CUs selected the platform through their partnership with Member Driven Technologies (MDT), a CUSO that hosts the Episys core platform from Symitar to provide a private cloud alternative for core processing and IT needs.
The primary driver of change from copper to optical is that the demands on the network have evolved. Optical cable has no distance limitations because POL (passive optical LAN) is completely passive and requires no electronics to boost the signal. Despite the decades-old rise of electronic payments at the expense of cash, the rate of decrease in ATM cash withdrawals has slowed down, and more consumers are avoiding fees by using their own financial institution’s ATMs, according to the Federal Reserve. The total number of ATM cash withdrawals was 5.1 billion in 2018, a slight decline of 100 million from 2015. Cash withdrawals had remained steady at just below 6 billion annually from 2003 to 2012. On-us cash withdrawals totaled 3.4 billion in 2018, relatively stable with 2015, but foreign transactions fell to 1.7 billion in 2018 and posted a compounded annualized decline of 3.7% in the 2015-18 period. Those trends pushed the share of on-us cash withdrawals to 67% from 64% three years earlier.
Cardless ATMs are on the rise, driven partially by the perception that they are safer to use than physical debit cards for withdrawing cash. Cardless ATMs remove the risk of card skimming, the biggest type of fraud afflicting ATMs, but they are not immune to theft. For example, fraudsters have successfully sent a text message to cardholders and tricked them into visiting a fake website where they provided personal information, which allowed them to initiate cardless ATM transactions.

Mastercard today unveiled a new augmented reality (AR) app that lets cardholders see, explore and access the benefits of their Mastercard. Upon launching the app, cardholders will be prompted to scan their Mastercard to start the session. Using their phone to scan the area around them, cardholders will see three portals, each one representing one of the three categories that Mastercard benefits fall into: Experiences, Everyday Value and Peace of Mind.
Fingerprint readers will be installed in 4.6 billion smart phones worldwide by 2024, according to Juniper Research. But facial recognition hardware, such as Apple Inc.’s FaceID, is growing fast and will be installed in 800,000 devices by 2024, up from an estimated 96 million now. Fueled by advances in artificial intelligence, software-based facial-recognition will represent an even bigger market, accounting for 1.3 billion devices within five years, according to a Juniper report.

Philadelphia-based Ardent Credit Union has received a patent for its “Cube” branch design. The branch – 10 feet tall, 14 feet wide and 14 feet long – is designed as a full-service facility that can be placed in existing buildings such as retail spaces, offices and more.
