Tips for Cleaning Data-Center Gear in Response to Coronavirus

Data centers should have a clean room policy where people are required to sanitize their hands before they enter. Dell recommends powering down gear in advance of cleaning work. If this isn't feasible, they recommend that cleaning be limited to external surfaces such as handles and other common touch points. Dell says to avoid cleaners with chlorine, such as bleach; peroxides; solvents such as acetone, paint thinner, benzene, methylene chloride or toluene; ammonia (for example, Windex); and ethyl alcohol. They suggest that you moisten a microfiber cloth with a final concentration of 70% isopropyl alcohol by volume.

Evasive Malware Increasing, Evading Signature-Based Antivirus Solutions

Evasive malware has grown to record high levels, with over two-thirds of malware detected by WatchGuard in Q4 2019 evading signature-based antivirus solutions. This is a dramatic increase from the year-long average of 35% for 2019 and points to the fact that obfuscated or evasive malware is becoming the rule, not the exception. Organizations of all sizes will need to deploy advanced anti-malware solutions that can detect and block these attacks.

Many ATMs Remain up & Running During Challenging Times

Although some CU ATMs have become temporarily inaccessible due to branch closures in recent days, many are working double-time. Independent businesses operate nearly 60% of all ATMs in the U.S., and that includes many that are “branded” by FIs, notes the ATMIA. ATM companies and their employees are reportedly working double duty to keep up with demand on all manner of machines.

Urging Users to Use QR Codes at ATMs

Garanti BBVA, BBVA’s Turkish unit, has told their customers to use a QR code to make a withdrawal without touching the ATM. Even without a mobile device, they said that all ATMs and branch offices are being disinfected regularly.

Experts Expect Even Faster Growth for Same-Day ACH as a $100,000 Cap Goes into Effect

NACHA, the governing body for the nation’s automated clearing house network, has raised the limit on same-day payments from $25,000 to $100,000. The move follows a similar action earlier this year by The Clearing House Payments Co. for real-time transactions and is expected to have appeal particularly for business-to-business payments, where the lower cap was widely seen as crimping usage. NACHA estimates the higher limit will boost the portion of B2B payments overall that are eligible for same-day processing to 97% from 91%.

How Video Banking Can Bolster FIs During Disaster

While many FIs are wading into video technology, only 15 percent of consumers surveyed say they have actually been invited to use it; only 3 percent have been able to use video banking both in-branch and online. It’s overwhelmingly popular among people who have tried it, with 90 percent saying they would use in-branch video banking again, and 85 percent saying they’d use online video banking again.
