Microsoft Is Releasing a Non-Subscription Office Suite in 2021

Microsoft has been pushing Microsoft 365 for years now as the main way to get its Office apps. This subscription-based version of its suite gives you access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other apps for a monthly payment. However, the tech giant’s Exchange team wrote (as spotted by Windows Central) that a new version of Office you can purchase with a one-time payment is coming next year.

Mastercard Taps AI to Help FIs Fight off Cyber Risks

Mastercard has unveiled an AI-powered suite of tools designed to help FIs assess cyber risks across their ecosystem and prevent breaches. Drawing on the capabilities of RiskRecon, which Mastercard acquired earlier this year, the Cyber Secure suite's AI combines multiple public and proprietary data sources. Then it evaluates this data against 40 security and infrastructure criteria, with the impact and importance of each vulnerability analyzed to produce a cyber risk rating.

QR Codes Could Be the Future of Payments in the U.S.

Paying for goods and services using a QR code may seem uncommon to an American, but this payment method is already fairly common overseas, especially in Asia and developing countries around the world. In China and Japan, for example, QR codes processed $1.65 trillion in purchases in 2016. Now QR codes are becoming more popular in the U.S. Mercator’s data show that while only 13% of consumers used QR codes on their smartphones prior to the pandemic, an additional 11% have used the technology since. Moreover, 34% of those who were already using this payment technology reported using it more since COVID began.

Business Email Compromise Attacks Are on the Rise

The Business Email Compromise (BEC) is a particular type of phishing attack in which cybercriminals impersonate a trusted contact or other party, either internal or external. The goal is to convince the recipient to pay invoices, transfer funds, or provide other confidential information. Among the most impersonated brands, DHL took the top spot with fraudulent emails requesting payment for alleged shipments. Dropbox took second place, followed by Amazon, iCloud, and LinkedIn.
