Bradford-Scott Data Corporation, an owner/distributor of the Sharetec System, announced that ISU Credit Union in Normal, IL, has selected Sharetec core system. The Sharetec core data processing system is utilized by more than 300 credit unions nationwide.
Easy Solutions, a leading provider of solutions for identifying and preventing online transaction fraud, announced that it has closed an $11 million Series B financing round from Medina Capital, a high-growth equity investment firm. The funds will be leveraged to expand sales and marketing in the U.S. and worldwide in order to meet increasing demand for the company's total fraud protection platform.
Horsetail Technologies, a National IT Services provider to credit unions, announced its Cloud Advisory Solution which assists credit unions by finding the right cloud service for them based on their individual needs and provides ongoing support before, during and after the transition. The company says that they will guide their CU clients through the steps of assessment, network design, selection and management of all cloud relationships.
A new website, NBHotList.com, has been launched to monitor emerging issues in regulatory compliance and risk management for credit unions. Access to the website is operated by the new issues team of NeighborBench and NB Risk Partners, and is free and requires no registration.
Tablet shipments are expected to surge and eclipse PC units by 2015 largely due to inexpensive devices with 8-inch screens and smaller, according to IDC. The research firm said that it expects tablet shipments to be 229.3 million units in 2013, up 58.7 percent from 144.5 million units in 2012. In 2013, tablet shipments will pass portable PCs and in 2015 outrun the entire PC market.
Western Digital has come out with a new line of rack-mount storage systems. The company, well known for manufacturing consumer and enterprise hard drives, as well as small NAS boxes for the SMB market, has launched the Sentinel RX4100, a 1U rack-mount version of its existing Sentinel DX4000 desktop NAS. It runs Microsoft's Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials operating system which makes it easy for employees who aren't IT professionals to manage data storage, client backups, share files, and set up remote access. The WD Sentinel RX4100 is available in four configurations: 8TB (four 2TB drives), 12TB (four TB drives), or 16TB (four 4TB drives) at prices of $1,899, $1,999, or $2,349, respectively.

Foglight for Virtualization, Free Edition 6.5.2, is a virtual environment and capacity management tool that helps you assess virtual machine (VM) performance and health, as well as perform capacity monitoring. Dell says that their virtualization freeware suite is comprised of six utilities that provide virtualization administrators with 360-degree visibility into heterogeneous virtualized environments. It now includes Snapshot Explorer to monitor orphaned snapshots, and supports Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.1, VMware vSphere 5.1 and Microsoft Hyper-V 2012.

NCR has set up the first ATM in the United States to comply with the EMV standard at a New York City branch of the $30.4 billion-asset People's United Bank. NCR reports that it is upgrading the ATMs in partnership with Vantiv and ATM service provider Pendum, and the upgrade includes a refresh of both the software and the card-reader hardware.
According to the Federal Reserve, about $8.7 billion in $100 notes circulate worldwide, or about 26 percent of all U.S. currency in circulation. The introduction of a new $100 bill is still five months away and ATM manufacturers have been busy getting prepared. They have had to re-program and test the software that runs the note validators in their ATMs and currency counters to recognize the new $100 bill.

Eighty-three percent of respondents to a worldwide PayPal survey said they do not want to have to carry a physical wallet and would prefer a digital payment method. Germans were the most eager to abandon their wallets, with 90 percent saying they want another option, followed by U.S. consumers, of whom 86 percent were willing to stop using their wallets. The survey found that the most common locations where respondents wished they could get rid of their wallets were the gym, laundromat, and grocery store, irrespective of country of origin.
Trusteer announced their Mobile Risk Engine that is designed to help protect credit unions against mobile and PC-to-mobile (cross-channel) attacks. The company touts the following mobile fraud risk detection capabilities:
McAfee recently stated that they are seeing about 150,000 new pieces of malware every day. In response, the company has released two new complete endpoint security suites — one aimed at the enterprise and one aimed at businesses with 1,000 or fewer nodes. Both suites include Deep Defender and a host of other technologies, from endpoint firewall to intrusion prevention, application blocking and mobile device management. Deep Defender resides between the memory and OS to perform real-time memory and CPU monitoring. The company says that its real time, kernel level behavioral monitoring exposes and removes unknown threats, including kernel-mode rootkits, to preempt zero-day malware.

In a new report, "Customer Analytics in Retail Banking: Why Here? Why Now?," Celent states that customer analytics will evolve from a project undertaken by a minority of large institutions to a core competency among the majority of financial institutions over the next five years. The research firm believes there are multiple well-established business drivers for predictive analytics in financial services:
1) Customer Insight
2) Customer Experience Management
3) Channel Execution
4) Business Strategy
5) Risk Management
As of March 31, the total number of Visa chip cards in the US market was 3.5 million and growing at the rate of 5,000 per day. Yet critics point out that for Visa to meet their goal of going entirely EMV by Oct. 1, 2017, they would need to issue 448,395 chip cards per day to reach the nearly 716 million Visa cards in circulation.
Foresee's "Financial Services Benchmark" report which reports on online and mobile customer satisfaction trends shows that credit unions poll better than average, with an overall satisfaction score of 82. The industry average score is 72.
The Frost & Sullivan 2012 IT Decision Maker’s View of the Enterprise Communications Evolution survey has noted that financial services organizations currently are the leading adopters of VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), SIP (session initiation protocol) trunking and enterprise-wide UC (unified communications) deployments. These are cost-effective communications technologies that cut costs by running voice and data traffic over a single IP backbone. SIP trunking in particular can save money in several ways:
- eliminate expensive ISDN PRIs
- give access to shared trunks across locations
- reduce the number of PSTN gateways across branch offices
- easy to add and remove SIP trunks
Historically, building a resilient, high-capacity WAN (wide area network) meant lacing together frame-relay and point-to-point leased line circuits. Now those technologies and their successors are being displaced by a variety of IP-based Ethernet circuits.
